With a unique voice and sensitivity for Baroque and early music, haute-contre Marc Molomot is a dynamic artist who has established his reputation as a distinguished concert and opera singer. His interpretations of the Baroque repertoire provide the audience with a robust musical experience.
Marc Molomot’s most recent engagements featured his debut at the Opéra National de Lyon as Arnalta in L’incoronazione di Poppea, under the baton of William Christie and Les Arts Florissants, and a debut as The Evangelist in St. Matthew’s Passion with Andrew Parrott and the New York Collegium. He also sang the Bach b-minor Mass with the Trinity Consort, and the Easter Oratorio with Apollo’s Fire in Cleveland. He began the season with a two-month tour of Europe and South America with Les Arts Florissant in an all-Charpentier program, and also sang Charpentier’s Actéon and Te Deum with Les goûts réunis in Nanterre and Sarrebourg. In 2007 he will return to the Opéra National de Lyon to sing Basilio in Mozart’s Le Nozee di Figaro.
Last season engagements took him to Vancouver for Acis and Galatea, on a tour through France for Purcell/Charpentier concerts and an EMI recording with Les Arts Florissants, and back to NY Collegium for several concerts featuring the music of Gabrieli, Clerambault and Bach. He also sung Handel’s Messiah with the Saint Thomas Church in New York under the baton of John Scott.
In Season 2003-2004, Mr. Molomot made his Les Arts Florissant debut in Les Boréades at the Opéra Garnier followed by a tour at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and London’s Barbican center. Another debut followed with Montreal’s Ensemble Boreades in Acis and Galatea as Damon, which has been recorded and released by Atma Classique. Mr. Molomot sang Arnalta in L’incoronazione di Poppea under the direction Paul O’dette and Stephen Stubbs in Vancouver, and then returned to Paris to perform in Les Arts Florissant’s production of Les Indes Gallant. He also performed with Maestro O’dette in Lully’s Le Carnival Masquerade at Cornell University and at the Eastman School of Music, his alma mater. Finally, Mr. Molomot performed the Monterverdi Vespers with Andrew Parrott and returned to the Trinity Consort for a program of Charpentier under the direction of Eric Milnes. Other notable concert appearances include a debut with Munich’s Ensemble Bressanone singing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Alex Weimann, Bernstein’s Mass with L’Orchestre National d’Ile de France, and an appearance with the Akron Symphony performing Bach’s Magnificat.
Since 1997, Marc Molomot has appeared as a soloist or principal in various concerts and operas under the baton of world-renowned conductors at many important theaters and festivals. He has sung with Maestros
William Christie, Gustav Lenhardt, Christophe Rousset, Martin Pearlman, Andrew Parrott, Martin Gester, Paul O’dette, Eric Milnes, and Kurt Masur.
Mr. Molomot made his professional operatic debut as an apprentice at the Santa Fe Opera in summer 1994 and entered San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program in 1995. In North America, he has appeared in Der Rosenkavalier (New York City Opera), Le Nozze di Figaro (San Francisco Opera, Cleveland Opera, & Opera Columbus), La Belle Hélène (Portland Opera & L’Opera Francais), L’incoronazione di Poppea (Boston Baroque & Vancouver Opera), Madama Butterfly (San Francisco Opera), Carmen (Opera Festival of New Jersey), Albert Herring (Orlando Opera), and Barbe-Bleue (L’Opera Français). Significant debuts include the New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur as the tenor soloist in the American premiere of Dov Seltzer’s Lament to Yitzhak presented at the Lincoln Center Festival; the tenor soloist in Carmina Burana with Lyndon Woodside and the Oratorio Society of New York at Carnegie Hall; Tanglewood Festival in Lully’s Thesee; and various concerts featuring works by Rameau and Cleramhault.
Specializing in the baroque repertoire, Mr. Molomot has also made impressive concert appearances internationally with the likes of The Philharmonia Baroque in San Francisco singing the tenor arias in Bach’s St John Passion; New York Collegium, conducted by Christophe Rousset in Rameau’s Anacreon; Graham O’Reilly’s Ensemble William Byrd performing in Purcell’s Faerie Queen; New York Collegium in Handel’s Israel and Egypt; Mozart’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall with the Oratorio Society of New York; Montreal’s L’Ensemble Arion in an all-Charpentier program with Maestro Herve Niquet; and various programs with St. Louis Symphony, Cleveland’s Apollo’s Fire: The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, Portland’s Trinity Consort, and Tafelmusic in Toronto.
A native of Poughkeepsie, New York, Marc Molomot earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Molomot receives coaching from Janet Bookspan in New York and Howard Crook in Paris. He now resides in New York City.
